Release of the Disability Framework and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework

I am pleased to advise that ACTCS has released the following Frameworks:

  • The Disability Framework
  • Be the Change We Seek– Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework

The ACTCS Disability Framework and the ACTCS Be the Change We Seek – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework are positive steps towards providing greater support to clients with disability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.

These frameworks were developed in consultation with a broad range of stakeholders, including clients with disability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.

The Disability Framework provides a guide for what best practice looks like in the correctional environment when working with clients with disability. Many staff already demonstrate the principles of the Framework in their day-to-day work and implementation of the Framework will enable a more consistent service approach across the agency. This framework is a roadmap for future service improvement within ACTCS and will be operationalised through the next Disability Action and Inclusion Plan.

ACTCS partnered with Curijo Pty Ltd to develop the Be the Change We Seek – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework. The Be the Change We Seek – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework is an important foundation document which supports ACTCS’s aim to be recognised as a provider of effective and culturally sensitive corrective services that positively change lives, reduce reoffending, and prevent future victims. This Framework provides information and guidance on behaviours, actions and approaches that could assist in reducing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s contact with ACTCS and the criminal justice system more generally, and to develop and implement culturally responsive practices across ACT Corrective Services.

The Disability Framework is available to read and is also available in Easy English.
