After being sentenced or remanded in custody, detainees will be transported from the court cells to the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) to undergo admissions processing.
The AMC is a smoke-free environment.
Admission
Detainees will have their identity confirmed, be photographed and strip-searched for any prohibited items. Any property on a detainee will be searched, recorded and processed.
Property items may be returned to the detainee, stored or disposed of, depending on what the items are. Any cash on the detainee will be deposited into their trust account and can be used to purchase a range of goods and grocery items.
Detainees will have the opportunity to make one telephone call.
Detainees will be drug tested and can attend to their personal hygiene.
Personal clothing will be stored, and detainees will be issued with standard clothing items.
A full health assessment will be completed, including a mental health assessment.
An initial risk assessment will be conducted to identify any special needs or concerns prior to placement in the induction unit.
Induction
All detainees receive an induction to assist in adjusting to the AMC routine and commence sentence management processes that will support them throughout their time in custody.
