Health care


Detainees have access to a community equivalent standard of health care through Justice Health Services. More information is available on the ACT Health website.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander detainees can also access an Indigenous-specific holistic primary health service provided by Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services.

All detainees receive a full health assessment on admission to the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC), including a mental health assessment.

Other health care services include but are not limited to:

Detainees who require health care that cannot be provided within the AMC will be transferred to a health facility in accordance with the recommendation of a Justice Health Services professional.
