CTU Correctional Officer

About the role

As an ACTCS Correctional Officer you are part of, and contribute to, a supportive team environment working directly with detainees. You have the opportunity to make a difference and change the lives of detainees to ensure a safe and humane community for all.

Correctional Officers working at the Court Transport Unit (CTU) work eight-hour shifts from Monday to Friday and operate out of the custodial suite beneath the ACT Courts. Set duties include transporting detainees to and from the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) and Bimberi Youth Justice Centre, as well as receiving offenders from the Police Watch House and holding them in custody.

CTU is an extremely dynamic unit exhibiting a high degree of professionalism in a very visible role, building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders and maintaining public safety. You will be trained for all kinds of situations, giving you the confidence to perform your role.

As a Correctional Officer, you will also be responsible for contributing to detainee rehabilitation through supporting detainee wellbeing and encouraging detainees to engage in positive behavioural change.

ACTCS run CTU Trainee Correctional Officer Bulk Recruitment processes as required with the process taking approximately five months to complete.

Successful applicants will be offered the opportunity to complete a 12-week Custodial Recruit Training program as a Trainee Correctional Officer. Following the successful completion of this training, you will automatically become a Correctional Officer Grade 1.
