AMC Correctional Officer

About the role

As an ACTCS Correctional Officer you are part of, and contribute to, a supportive team environment working directly with detainees. You have the opportunity to make a difference and change the lives of detainees to ensure a safe and humane community for all.

Correctional Officers working at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) work rostered shifts in a variety of areas within the correctional centre and carry out set duties including searches, escort duties, observing and assessing detainee behaviour and effectively responding to incidents.

Working at the AMC is fast-paced and varied. You will be trained for all kinds of situations, giving you the confidence to perform your role.

As a Correctional Officer, you will also be responsible for contributing to detainee rehabilitation through supporting detainee wellbeing and encouraging detainees to engage in positive behavioural change.

ACTCS run two AMC Trainee Correctional Officer Bulk Recruitment processes each year. These processes take approximately five months with advertising commencing in February and August.

Successful applicants will be offered the opportunity to complete a 12-week Custodial Recruit Training program as a Trainee Correctional Officer. Following the successful completion of this training, you will automatically become a Correctional Officer Grade 1.
